Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds: Tuesday, June 30, 2026 Game Preview

Starting Pitchers: Sproat vs. Lowder

Brandon Sproat draws the assignment for the Brewers, and this is a start worth watching closely. Sproat is a pitcher with a power arm whose ability to keep Cincinnati's lineup off-balance will hinge on commanding his fastball and mixing his secondary offerings effectively. The Reds will counter with Rhett Lowder, one of the more intriguing young arms in their system who has shown the ability to generate swings and misses at the big-league level. Lowder is the kind of pitcher who can quiet a lineup in a hurry if his command is sharp, so Milwaukee's hitters will need to be disciplined early and force pitch counts up.

Milwaukee Brewers Starting Lineup

  • 1. Christian Yelich — DH
  • 2. Jackson Chourio — LF
  • 3. Brice Turang — 2B
  • 4. William Contreras — C
  • 5. Jake Bauers — 1B
  • 6. Garrett Mitchell — CF
  • 7. Sal Frelick — RF
  • 8. Joey Ortiz — SS
  • 9. David Hamilton — 3B

Cincinnati Reds Starting Lineup

  • 3. JJ Bleday — LF
  • 4. Eugenio Suárez — 3B
  • 5. Nathaniel Lowe — DH
  • 6. Noelvi Marte — RF
  • 7. Edwin Arroyo — 2B
  • 8. Jose Trevino — C
  • 9. TJ Friedl — CF

Keys to Watch for the Brewers

  • Yelich at the top: Christian Yelich leading off as the DH is an interesting wrinkle. If Yelich gets on base and creates early pressure, it sets the table perfectly for Jackson Chourio's power in the two-hole. That 1-2 combination has the potential to be electric against any pitching staff.
  • Contain Elly De La Cruz: Milwaukee's defense has to account for De La Cruz at every moment. He is one of the most dangerous players in the NL — a threat to change the game with his legs, his arm, and his raw power. Sproat must be deliberate about holding runners and keeping De La Cruz from getting into open space on the bases.
  • Chourio and Contreras driving runs: With William Contreras hitting cleanup, the Brewers have genuine run-production potential in the heart of their order. Getting Contreras into favorable counts against Lowder will be critical to breaking through.
  • Hamilton and Ortiz at the bottom: David Hamilton and Joey Ortiz batting eighth and ninth gives Milwaukee a scrappy bottom third that can grind at-bats and put runners on for the top of the order to drive in.

Prediction

This is a winnable game at home for Milwaukee. The Brewers lineup has the depth and balance to get to Lowder if they work counts early, and Sproat has the stuff to keep Cincinnati's lineup in check at American Family Field. The crowd on a Tuesday night in late June will be energized, and home-field advantage matters. Look for the Brewers to take this one, 4-2, with Chourio delivering the big hit and Sproat logging a quality start of six innings.
