Brewers vs. Diamondbacks: Sunday July 5 Game Preview
Starting Pitchers: Sproat vs. Rodriguez
Brandon Sproat takes the mound for Milwaukee in what figures to be a defining opportunity for the young right-hander. Sproat has been working to carve out a consistent role in the Brewers rotation, and a road start in a hostile environment like Chase Field — one of the more hitter-friendly parks in the National League — demands command and pitch efficiency above all else. He cannot afford to fall behind in counts or let the D-backs turn the lineup over with traffic on the bases.
Eduardo Rodriguez brings experience and a deceptive delivery to the other side of this matchup. The veteran lefty has the kind of stuff that can make Milwaukee's lineup uncomfortable, particularly against left-handed bats. Manager Pat Murphy will need his lineup to stay disciplined and work deep into counts to get to Arizona's bullpen.

Keys to Watch for the Brewers
- Jackson Chourio's at-bats against Rodriguez: Chourio hitting second in the order means he will see Rodriguez early and often. How the young outfielder handles the veteran lefty's mix could set the tone for the entire Brewers offense.
- Christian Yelich in the middle of the order: Yelich slotted in at DH and batting third is exactly where Milwaukee needs him producing. A hot Yelich forces Arizona to pitch carefully to Andrew Vaughn behind him, creating opportunities throughout the lineup.
- Sproat's first-inning command: Chase Field can get loud in a hurry if Ketel Marte and Corbin Carroll get going against a shaky starter. Sproat needs to attack the zone early and keep the D-backs off the bases in the first three innings.
- Gary Sánchez behind the plate: Sánchez handling Sproat's game plan against a lineup that features some dangerous contact hitters will be a quiet but critical factor in this one.
Prediction
This is a tough road spot for Milwaukee. Chase Field plays to Arizona's strengths, and Rodriguez is a veteran who knows how to pitch in big spots. That said, the Brewers lineup has enough firepower — especially with Yelich and Chourio in the heart of the order — to put runs on the board. If Sproat can give Milwaukee five solid innings and the offense does its job early against Rodriguez, the Brewers steal this one. Brewers 5, Diamondbacks 4.
